8 Mile

My last post was about Eminem, so is this one, and probably many others will be, just to warn you.

Everybody knows about the movie Eminem starred in, 8 Mile. A common mistake everyone makes, though, is thinking it's a movie about his life. The movie is extremely similar to his life but it is not actually a movie about his life.

The movie is set in Detroit where most people know Eminem is from.(where he moved to around age 14.) He mentions working at little Caesars. He lives In a trailer park. He participates in rap battles. All of these things happened in his real life, but they only took things from his real life and put them in the movie so the actual storyline, not Eminem's life but how a white can pursue his dream of a rap career in a predominantly black city, can be shown better.

If the movie was actually a movie about Eminem's life, his friends wouldn't be named Sol or Future or Wink or Cheddar Bob or Iz, you'd hear names like Proof, Kuniva, and other D12 members, because that's how his rap career took off. Not by recording demos for free. He wouldn't have a little sister in the movie, because he doesn't in real life.

I can understand why people would think 8 Mile is about Eminem's life, but I'm just clarifying it is not. If people aren't as into Eminem as I am, haven't been into him for as long as I have, then it's a common mistake thinking that the movie is about his life. So that is that.
